Hi families! I want to introduce myself, I am Chanlyn, and I pronounce the “CH” as an “SH”. I am the owner/founder of the sleep consulting agency Sound Sleep 4 Bubbies L.L.C. I have worked in the child care field for over 14yrs. My passion for working with children was created from my childhood having a more mature role with my siblings and from there blossomed as I grew from nanny to an overnight/daytime newborn care specialist and I took it even further to certify myself in pediatric sleep. Since then I have graduated from Newborn Care, Sleep Sense and the Sleep Health Organization.
I have studied the correlations of Pediatric Sleep, Health and Development connection extensively over the last decade. You can join me weekly through the Kinedu app, as their English sleep expert. I teach weekly lessons on hot topics about infant sleep and hold sleep courses 2-3x a year. I stay up to date with new research, join sleep conferences monthly and always look for new certifications to boost my knowledge. A sleep consultant is only as good as the information they hold and the way they can support a family. Sleep is individual so It is not just enough to be an expert on one child but instead knowing how to apply the science and evidence back research to each individual case. I specialize in children ages 0 to 6 years of age.
Now personally, what would you like to know? I live in a Seattle neighborhood with my husband, our dog, and our son who was born in the beginning of 2023. I have never known exhaustion like being a parent brings. Never in all my life of a 24hr shift and back to back overnights caring for newborns, have I ever felt so tired! The day to day is absolutely draining but the one silver lining is that I started shaping and applying what I teach to my newborn clients, to my son when he was around 6 weeks. Now, I would have probably started earlier but his posterior tongue tie he was born with, led to nursing issues and weight loss so we needed to get that all corrected before sleep was a focus. However no time was lost, he quickly gained weight and was able to start to go down awake and learn to link those cycles. By 12 weeks we had a child sleeping 12 hours and no more night feeds. I was so thankful to this because when my postpartum hormones hit around the same time, getting a good night’s rest kept me mentally sane and able to still take on my day to day. Sleep connects to our emotional, physical and mental state. As nursing moms our milk supply is even connected to our emotions. Sleep is never more important for parents than in that first year. This is such an important time for our growing child as well. Sleep is how and where they will grow.
As a stay at home working mom myself, I know how important it was to rely on those naps to get work done. I knew this when I was pregnant that if I was to keep working with clients and keep teaching, my child would need to sleep plus who would listen to someone if their own child can’t sleep? He has that predictable schedule, I am able to schedule calls, plan our day and keep organized. More importantly he is happy and thriving. The success came from my philosophy around sleep. Understanding how newborns sleep and installing that framework with those preventive measures to never fully feel the need to use a sleep training strategy. Prevention over correction.
I fully believe that any sleep event can be a welcoming event, something that everyone can look forward to at the end of the day, a sigh of relief and a period of rest and recovery. You can give your child the gift of being able to self soothe without crying for hours or needs being ignored. You can still nurture support and comfort your child while teaching them how to use those internal tools over those external parent props. It doesn’t need to be stressful or traumatic for the household. I work one on one with you to help make this possible. I offer different levels of support from 1 time to 10wks of coaching. I work to help keep you accountable to make sure you are getting what you need to be successful. I am not a magician, it is very much teamwork and together we can get your child sleeping their optimal amount.
I will not just build a plan for you but educate and help you understand your child’s sleep architecture better so that when our time is up, you, yourself have the tools, confidence and knowledge to continue strengthening for long term sleep. Knowing knowledge is truly how to gain power.
